2017 Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay
Aromas and flavors of roasted agave, roasted squash, banana chips, sunflower seeds, honey, and stewed peaches with a slightly chewy, sharp, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a warming, interesting, easy finish with moderate oak flavor. A distinctive Chardonnay from the Palo Alto foothills.
Our 2017 Chardonnay is a blend of fruit from the Regan Vineyards in Corralitos (50%), overlooking Monterey Bay, and from Cooper-Garrod Estate Vineyards in Saratoga (50%). The Cooper-Garrod contributes touches of nectarine, pineapple and apple. The Regan fruit contributes a delicate, floral character. We barrel-fermented this Chardonnay for a slow, fruity fermentation. The wine aged sur-lie in barrel, with agitation, for only six months, resulting in a light oak flavor. Malolactic fermentation was terminated at 30% malic remaining. The wine was filtered and bottled at 17 months.
