2014 Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay

Toasty aromas of smoked nuts, d’anjou pear, crisp nectarine, honeysuckle, leather, cedar, and mango coulis finish.   A nicely integrated and well-balanced Chardonnay with nuance and smoky intrigue.

Our 2014 Chardonnay is a blend of fruit from the Regan Vineyards in Corralitos (66%), overlooking Monterey Bay, and  from Cooper-Garrod Vineyard in Saratoga (34%). The Clone 4 contributes touches of nectarine, pineapple and apple.  The Mount Eden Clone contributes a delicate, floral character. We barrel-fermented this Chardonnay, maintaining 60 degrees, for a slow, fruity fermentation. The wine aged sur-lie in barrel, with agitation, for only six months, resulting in a light oak flavor. Malolactic fermentation was limited to 50%. The wine was filtered and bottled at 15 months and released at two years, six months.
